The Bohol Coconuts Baseball and Softball Club will be having a “Book Fundraiser” to raise money to build an indoor training center in Barangay Cambanac, Philippines. World Baseball Guy: The Overseas Adventures of an American Coach is a collection of 12 short stories detailing the chaotic lifestyle of an international baseball coach struggling with the suicide of his best friend.
The Coconuts Indoor Training Center will become the “hub” for club members and will also include a Soup Kitchen that offers discounted menu items. The facility will also host various meetings (coaches, scorekeepers, media, etc.) and club activities.
The $12,000 construction project will be 250 sqm and feature three 65-feet tunnels that can be extended to 95 feet, and will be used for hitting, pitching, fielding, and throwing.
“The indoor training center project will provide club members the opportunity to develop their skills year-round,” said Coconuts general manager Lerma Moore.
Construction is slated to begin in January 2026, and the Grand Opening is tentatively set for June 11th — the 60th birthday celebration of Coach Merv Moore
Merv is embarking on a 10-year Youth Baseball Development journey on Bohol Island and will form All-Star squads of 4–5-year-olds, 6–7-year-olds, and 8–9-year-olds, and offer elite training for the next decade – 2026 to 2036!
However, due to the rainy season and other weather disturbances, the club needs an indoor practice facility to offer kids year-round training.
Merv developed more than a dozen national team players while coaching part-time players in Switzerland and feels confident he can develop a pipeline of elite baseball standouts with 250-plus days a year of trainings, camps, tournaments, and league games.
