The Cambanac Barangay Council organized a Health Seminar for young and future mothers on Monday, October 20, at the Cambanac Barangay Hall to help them take better care of their newborn babies.

The seminar was organized to provide young and future mothers essential information in regard to the health and safety of their babies. The successful initiative unscores the Barangay Council’s commitment to community health.

The Philippines faces challenges in newborn survival, with a neonatal mortality rate of approximately 14.2 deaths per 1,000 live births in 2022. This rate has seen a slight decrease to 14.0 deaths per 1,000 live births in 2023.

The country’s healthcare system has made improvements, with 84% of births attended by skilled health personnel. However, disparities exist across the archipelago, and natural disasters can disrupt maternal services in affected areas. The country is also working on strengthening universal health coverage through PhilHealth expansion.
