Coconuts Baseball: Juniors & Seniors Development Program

spot_img

At the Bohol Coconuts Baseball & Softball Club, our development pathway reaches its apex with our Juniors (Ages 12-13) and Seniors (Ages 14-18) divisions. This is where the foundational work of a decade culminates.

Coach Merv sees this group as the legacy builders. These Juniors and Seniors are the first wave of athletes to come all the way through our system. They are the nucleus—the future coaches, league organizers, and pillars of this community who will ensure baseball thrives on Bohol for decades.”

Hitting

Advanced offensive strategy meets refined physical execution.

Advanced Approach & Plate Discipline: Developing a detailed plan for each at-bat based on count, pitcher tendencies, and game situation.

Gap-to-Gap Power Development: Increasing bat speed with proper hand positioning to drive the ball with authority to all fields.

Two-Strike and Opposite-Field Mastery: Elite-level skills to handle velocity, protect the zone, and defeat defensive shifts.

Live Velocity & Breaking Ball Recognition: Training against advanced pitching to hone reaction time and swing decisions.

Goal: To become a complete, feared hitter in the lineup with a high batting average, on-base percentage, and slugging capability.

Fielding & Position Specialization

Coach Merv Moore is looking to train hitters similar to former Therwil Flyers and Swiss national Team slugger Daniel Eichenberger, who transformed from an undisciplined hitter into one of the most disciplined power hitters in Swiss Baseball history.

Full commitment to mastering a primary and secondary position.

Position-Specific Elite Drills: Infielders work on double-play turns, slow rollers, and throwing from multiple arm slots. Outfielders master route efficiency, wall play, and one-hop throws to bases.

Advanced Defensive Analytics: Understanding hitter spray charts, positioning data, and situational probabilities.

Catcher Development: Full-spectrum training including pitch framing, advanced blocking, pop times, game calling, and managing a pitching staff.

First Base Specialization: Footwork around the bag, receiving throws from all angles, and turning 3-6-3 double plays.

Goal: To achieve collegiate-level defensive proficiency at a specialized position, becoming a defensive asset.

Pitching

The art of pitching is refined into a science of command and strategy.

Full Arsenal Development: Mastering multiple pitch types (Fastball 2-Seam/4-Seam, Changeup, Breaking Balls) with proper grips and arm action.

Pitching to a Game Plan: Learning to study hitters, set them up with sequencing, and exploit weaknesses.

Velocity & Command Programs: Structured long-toss, bullpen sessions, and strength training to increase velocity while maintaining pinpoint control.

Stamina and Recovery: Building inning capacity and implementing post-outing arm care routines.

Goal: To develop into a complete pitcher with command of multiple pitches, high baseball IQ, and the durability for a starting role.

Baserunning & Team Offense

Coach Merv Moore is confident that the Bohol Coconuts will develop national team players like former Therwil Flyers and Swiss national team infielder Mark Decker.

Aggressive, intelligent baserunning as a weapon.

Advanced Leads & Secondary Leads: Maximizing distance while reading the pitcher’s pickoff moves.

Stealing Techniques: Perfecting jumps from both the wind-up and stretch, including delayed steals and reading pitchers’ tells.

Situational Aggression: Scoring from second on singles, first-to-third on hits, and reading outfielders’ arms.

Team Offense Execution: Mastering the hit-and-run, sacrifice bunt, squeeze play, and situational hitting with precision.

Goal: To apply constant pressure on the defense and consistently take the extra base.

Team Defense & Dynamics

Operating as a single, intelligent, communicative unit.

Complex Strategic Sets: Executing infield-in, no-doubles defense, advanced bunt defenses, and intentional pitch-arounds.

Pitcher-Catcher-Infielder Synergy: Running pickoff plays, pitch-out sequences, and defensive audibles.

Leadership & Communication: Infield captains and outfield generals taking charge, directing shifts, and controlling game tempo.

Mental Toughness & Resilience: Training to overcome errors, bad calls, and high-pressure tournament situations as a unified team.

Goal: To field a team that operates with the seamless, strategic sophistication of a collegiate program.
