For Lerma Moore, General Manager of the Bohol Coconuts Baseball & Softball Club, this new venture is more than a business—it’s a homecoming mission. A native of Cambanac and a two-term member of its Barangay Council, Moore sees the club as the key to unlocking a brighter future for the community’s next generation.

Having spent many years in Manila before returning to her roots in 2008, Moore returned with a clear perspective on the opportunities often lacking in provincial life.

“I grew up here. These are my friends, their children are like my own,” she says. “In a place where many families struggle to send even one child to college, we have to create new pathways.”

“We want to help our youth map out careers, whether that’s through sports scholarships, college, or specialized job training programs. We cannot let a lack of options define their future.”

The Coconuts, under her operational leadership, is designed to be that multifaceted engine of opportunity. While baseball and softball provide the foundation—offering a potential avenue to athletic scholarships and international competition—Moore is particularly passionate about the club’s academic and technological components.

“The diamond is just one classroom,” Moore explains. “I am thrilled that we are integrating Technology Clubs for our Juniors and Seniors.”

In a rapidly evolving world, Moore understands that kids in Cambanac need the chance to build digital skills, to be part of the future and not just spectators.

“I’ve been speaking with my friends, the mothers in our community, and their excitement is noticeable,” she shares. “They see this as a safe, constructive environment where their children can grow, learn, and actually have a shot at a career they might never have dreamed of. That hope is everything.”

The club’s model addresses immediate community needs while building long-term potential. By offering deeply discounted food services to members, it ensures that participation in sports and technology programs isn’t hindered by economic hardship.

“This is for every child in Cambanac,” Moore states. “Whether they dream of being a professional athlete, a software developer, or an engineer, we want to provide the tools, the guidance, and the support network.”

“We are planting seeds here in our own backyard. Watching these young people grow and succeed, knowing we helped open that door—that is the real reward.”

The Bohol Coconuts Baseball & Softball Club will celebrate it’s Grand Opening on Sunday, February 1.  The club will begin early membership registration on January 15 for its inaugural programs, marking the first step in Lerma Moore’s vision to turn community ties into career lifelines for the youth of Cambanac.
