The Bohol Coconuts Baseball & Softball Club is stepping into the spotlight. As construction plans for the Coconuts Performance Center solidify, the club is proud to announce that Hali Moore, daughter of Coach Merv and Lerma, will be taking the lead on the development of the club’s new digital media project: the YouTube reality docuseries, “Building the Coconuts.”
Currently completing her third year of studies in Psychology in Manila, Hali is no stranger to hard work and entrepreneurship. A successful freelance writer and business owner operating a thriving BTS K-Pop venture, she will now bring her creative vision and marketing acumen to the family business. While Coach Merv will remain involved in the script development process, Hali will helm the production and marketing teams, allowing her father to focus his energies on the Coconuts Performance Center project.
“Building the Coconuts” promises to be an unfiltered, 24/7 look at the journey of building an elite baseball academy from the ground up in the heart of the Philippine jungle. The docuseries will follow founders Coach Merv and Lerma Moore through the triumphs and challenges of their mission. The content breakdown will offer a diverse and engaging slice of life:
50% Baseball & Softball Training and Games: Featuring practice sessions, weight training, game action, and much more.
10% Morning Staff Meetings: A behind-the-scenes look at the strategy of building an elite baseball academy.
10% Club Events and Activities: Showcasing academic contests, educational field trips, social activities, and various club events.
10% Coach Merv and Lerma’s Private Life: Giving viewers a personal connection to the family behind the mission.
10% Club Member Profiles: Telling the inspiring stories of the young athletes.
10% Community Events and Island Lifestyle: Highlighting the unique island lifestyle of King Cobras, Typhoons, Poverty, Pythons, and Earthquakes.
Hali’s goal is to create a show with broad appeal, connecting with the global baseball community, the millions of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who understand the sacrifice of building a life abroad, and foreign expats who relate to the adventure of starting over in a new country.
“Building an elite sports academy in the jungle that will produce the first Filipino baseball superstar will be an entertaining adventure,” Hali said. “From King Cobras to Typhoons to Earthquakes, the world will see why these kids are resilient and mentally strong.”
Hali is eager to distinguish the series from typical reality television. There will be no manufactured drama—just the authentic, high-stakes reality of life in the Philippines. “Unlike the Survivor reality show, pythons and cobras are a part of the daily life in Bohol,” she added.
Coach Merv is optimistic about the series’ reach, setting a goal of 50,000 to 100,000 views per episode. Hali, however, is aiming even higher, setting her sights on an ambitious 150,000 to 200,000 views, banking on the show’s authentic storytelling and unique premise.
Beyond her role behind the scenes, Hali is also looking forward to spending her summer vacation directly impacting the lives of the club’s members through tutoring. “Education is the key to a successful future, and I want to help the younger kids, especially the girls, to pursue careers they love,” she said.
Coach Merv expressed his pride in passing the torch for this creative endeavor. “Hali has the drive, the creativity, and the heart to make ‘Building the Coconuts’ a hit and inspire people everywhere.”
