American baseball coach Marvin “Merv” Moore was 30,000 feet in the air on a flight back to Texas from Kathmandu, Nepal when the idea of starting an elite youth baseball and softball club in the Philippines first came to life. Now, just 22 months later, the former international baseball skipper is closing in on his dream.

“We are much bigger than just a baseball and softball club,” Moore explained. “Our mission is to prepare our club members to enjoy academic and athletic excellence, while at the same time assisting their families.”

The Bohol Coconuts Baseball and Softball Club will launch it’s operations on Saturday, January 3, 2026, with a Community BBQ, Wiffle Ball Home Run Derby, and a Youth Talent Show. It will be the first step towards developing a pipeline of elite Filipino baseball and softball athletes.

“We’re going to have a lot of fun developing elite ballplayers, but we need some competition,” Moore added. “I want to recruit some Americans, Europeans, and Asians to relocate to Bohol and operate their own baseball and softball clubs. I’m going to develop some really good baseball players and my kids are going to need to play some other talented kids.”

Moore also believes he has a business model that will allow club owners to earn a comfortable living while at the same time uplift the lives of club members and their families.

“We help parents by reducing their daily food costs with affordable menu items at our Soup Kitchen,” Moore said. “We also have an online store with discount clothes and other products that club members can buy on installment plans, and low-interest cash loans for food and emergencies.”

Besides baseball and softball training, the club will also offer academic contests, educational field trips, and social activities for students who do not play sports. The club will also have a Technology Department that will help students better understand and utilize AI, Robotics, and Cybersecurity. However, the Coconuts also have adult members.

The club offers adult members several recreational sports, including Badminton, Pickleball, Slow-Pitch Softball, and Baseball. Social activities include bi-monthly Date Nights, Tours, Seminars, Game Nights, and much more.

“The Coconuts utilizes an extensive Volunteer Network to reduce the operating costs of our club,” Moore said. “We also have a Volunteer Abroad Program that will help us raise funds and train our kids at the same time. I know how it feels to be alone in a foreign country so our volunteers will have an incredible experience!”

The club will begin welcoming volunteers next summer in June, and will also be inviting prospective franchise owners to visit Bohol and learn about our business operations. Living on a tropical island is more than an adventure, it’s a lifestyle!
