Get ready for a reality show unlike anything you’ve ever seen. The Bohol Coconuts Baseball & Softball Club is proud to announce our second YouTube project — “Championship Coach: From Cockfighting to the Dugout” — a unique online series that will transform 20 avid Filipino cockfighting trainers into championship-caliber youth baseball coaches.
This six-month, 48-episode journey isn’t just entertainment—it’s a high-stakes competition, a social experiment, and a major fundraiser aimed at fueling the future of elite youth sports development in Bohol.

The Ultimate Transformation Challenge
Beginning on Thursday, June 11, 20 selected contestants will embark on an intense journey of classroom learning and hands-on field training under the mentorship of Marvin “Merv” Moore, a former international baseball coach and co-founder of the Coconuts.
The goal? To compete for ₱100,000 in cash for the grand prize winner and ₱50,000 for the runner-up—a total prize pool of $3,000 USD. But more than the money, they’re competing for the title of Bohol’s top little league baseball coach.
Why Gamecock Trainers?
“People who train gamecocks have the type of strategic, patient, and competitive mindsets that are perfect for baseball,” explains Coach Merv. “They take young gamecocks and train them in stages for the ultimate battle. That meticulous development process mirrors exactly what we do in training youth baseball players to become elite prospects.”
The idea, originally conceived by Coach Merv’s wife and club General Manager Lerma Moore, was born from a desire to find a unique, impactful fundraiser.
“We wanted something different that reflected our community and its passions,” she says. “Cockfighting is part of the Boholoano heritage, and some trainers are known for winning.”

A Series with Depth & Purpose
While the series will be 75% focused on learning baseball fundamentals, practice organization, game strategy, and leadership, it will also dive into the world of cockfighting—a deeply rooted cultural tradition in the Philippines. The show will explore the parallels between the two worlds: discipline, strategy, training regimens, and the pursuit of excellence.
“This is an experiment that has already piqued the interest of several potential sponsors,” notes Coach Merv, a former newspaper publisher who sees significant revenue potential in advertisements and product placements throughout the bi-weekly episodes. “We believe this show will capture a massive audience both locally and internationally.”
The Bigger Mission: Funding the Future of Bohol’s Youth
The “Championship Coach” series is one of the cornerstones of the Bohol Coconuts’ innovative annual fundraising strategy.
“We don’t have the time to be in constant fundraising mode,” states Coach Merv. “Our strategy is one big, bold, annual fundraiser that generates the capital we need to focus 100% on our mission: developing elite youth athletes who can sign professional contracts with MLB and NPB clubs, and helping families in our community raise productive, healthy kids.”
The club’s first YouTube project — “Building the Coconuts” — is set to launch on March 28, 2026, once Coach Merv returns to Bohol Island from Texas. This bi-weekly online reality series will follow the club founders 24/7 as they build a world-class baseball academy from the ground up.
All proceeds from the series will directly fund the Bohol Coconuts Club’s operations, including its youth leagues, elite training facilities, affordable food services, and community outreach programs.

Call for Applicants & Sponsors
The contest expects to receive 200-300 applications for the 20 coveted spots. We are looking for gamecock trainers who have a proven record of success, a compelling personal story, and a genuine willingness to learn and transform.
