Cambanac Cleanup Begins after High Winds Down Tree

Bohol Island escaped major damage from Tropical Storm Basyang, which featured heavy rain and sustained winds of up to 55 kilometers (34 miles) per hour and gusts of up to 70 kph (43mph), according to Pagasa.

Cambanac residents, some which were evacuated to Barangay Hall during the storm, had to clear a fallen coconut tree off the road. Several residents, including kids, enjoyed free “Buko” (young coconut) juice.

“It’s always a blessing when a storm passes by and doesn’t cause much damage,” explained Cambanac councilwoman Lerma Moore, who is also the Coconuts general manager.

“The Barangay Hall was full of evacuees last night, added Moore. “Fortunately, the tropical storm did not materialize into a deadly typhoon.”

Basyang is expected to emerge over Sulu Sea, pass close Cuyo Islands, and cross the northern portion of Palawan before weakening into a tropical depression Friday night or Saturday morning, and into a low pressure area on Sunday.
