The Bohol Coconuts Baseball and Softball Club will be launching a wide range of sports and academic activities early next year in Barangay Cambanac, Philippines. Cambanac Kagawad Lerma Moore is the co-owner of this new, exciting business venture and sat down recently for a one-on-one interview to discuss the different aspects of the club.

Q: What are the main objectives of the Coconuts Baseball and Softball Club?
A: We’re going to challenge our club members to become the best possible versions of themselves in baseball, softball, academics, and their daily lives. Every kid deserves an opportunity to chase their dreams, and we want to help these kids achieve their goals.

Q: When will the club begin operations?
A: The Coconuts will have a Grand Opening on Sunday, February 1, with a Youth Talent Show, Wiffle Ball HR Contest, and Community BBQ. We will also have a booth to signup new club members.

Q: How much does a club membership cost?
A: Our youth memberships are 30 pesos ($.51) monthly and includes both sports and social memberships. Adult memberships are 50 pesos ($.86) each month.

Q: What are your expectations for the baseball department?
A: We’re going to have some of the best youth baseball players in the country in five years because of our year-round development program. I expect lots of our club members to develop into collegiate, national team, and minor league prospects.

Q: What are your expectations for the softball department?
A: Our softball will begin next summer when we begin our Volunteer Abroad Program with a strong pitching focus. But we definitely want to develop players who can earn softball and academic college scholarships.

Q: What is the purpose of your Soup Kitchen?
A: The Soup Kitchen will provide club members with low-cost student lunches and offers affordable menu options to the general public. All club members receive a 50% discount on food items.

Q: When will the Indoor Training Center be completed?
A: We’re hoping our book fundraiser allows construction to begin next summer after our main headquarters is completed. But we expect to have an indoor practice facility completed before the end of 2026.

Q: What are your goals for the educational department?
A: We want to stimulate the brains of our club members with an array of academic opportunities, including contests, field trips, theatrical productions, and so much more.

Q: How important is the Coconuts Volunteer Network?
A: Our volunteers are the bloodline of the club and we show our appreciation with free memberships, discounted food at the Soup Kitchen, exclusive monthly beach parties, and other perks.

Q: What sports will the club offer adult members?
A: We will offer badminton, kickball, and slow-pitch softball for men and women. We also have various social activities that our adult club members will enjoy.

Q: Is it true that the Soup Kitchen will grow its own vegetable and livestock?
A: That’s correct. The purpose of our Soup Kitchen is to provide low-cost food options to our club members, not to make a big profit.

Q: Why should local kids be excited about this new club?
A: We’re going to provide area youth with a wide range of sports and academic opportunities, as well as social activities. But I think our baseball program will be something special in a very short time.
