Tropical Depression Verbena causes flooding in Cambanac

Local residents endured high winds and heavy rains Monday night as Tropical Depression Verbena was over the coastal waters of Anda, which is approximately 100 kilometers from Cambanac, Baclayon. The storm was packing winds of 55 kph with gusts up to 75 kph, according to state weather bureau PAGASA. It was moving north westward at 15 kph.

Several low-lying areas in Cambanac were overflowing with floodwaters, including the Cambanac Chapel and surrounding fields. However, the area mountains continue to shield the barangay from dangerous, typhoon-like winds.

Tropical Depression Verbena made its next landfall in Jagna, which is located about 58 kilometers from Cambanac. Barangay officials were on duty throughout the night at barangay hall.

“The main priority of the barangay council was the safety of our constiuents,” said Cambanac council member Lerma Moore.

The tropical depression will cross Central and Western Visayas and northern Palawan before exiting the Philippine area of responsibility by Thursday morning.
