Bohol Island was spared major damage from the onslaught of Typhoon Tino (Kalmaegi) with just one fatality — a tanod from Barangay Danao of Panglao town. However, more than 43,000 families were evacuated across the province due to strong winds and torrential rains.
Barangay Cambanc survived the storm with little or no wind damage, and just random flooded areas. Several areas were also affected by power outages caused by fallen electric lines.
“Cambanac was not impacted by the typhoon very much,” smiled barangay kagawad Lerma Moore. “The barangay council did a great job of preparing our constituents for the storm.”
Cebu province was hit hard and scenes of destruction were heartbreaking. The storm caused widespread flooding and submerged homes as the 20th storm to hit the Philippines this year claimed more than 80 lives. Northern Cebu was hit with a magnitude 6.9 earthquake just over a month ago that killed dozens and displaced thousands.
