Meet Norma: The Heart of the Coconuts Soup Kitchen

Behind every great community hub is a great kitchen—and behind ours will be Norma Altiche, the beloved cook and community matriarch whose food will fuel our club.

As the mother of our General Manager Lerma Moore and mother-in-law to Head Coach Merv Moore, Norma brings more than just recipes to the table. She brings the warmth, trust, and tradition that will make our soup kitchen feel like home.

A Cook Rooted in Community

Norma isn’t just a cook for the Coconuts—she’s a Cambanac institution. Well-known across the barangay for her exceptional talent, she’s in high demand year-round, especially during Fiesta season, where her skills are sought after for numerous paid gatherings. Her connection to the community runs deep, and her role at the club feels less like a job and more like an extension of her lifelong commitment to feeding and caring for her neighbors.

Her daughter, Lerma Moore, puts it simply:

“My mother has always been the heart of our home. Now, she’s the heart of our club. When people taste her cooking, they don’t just get a meal—they get a taste of genuine care.”

The Flavors of Home

Norma’s menu is a celebration of Filipino comfort and nutrition. Some of her most-requested dishes include:

  • Pork Sinigang Soup
  • Chicken Adobo with Boiled Eggs
  • Pancit Canton with Chicken & Vegetables
  • Beef Soup (Nilaga)
  • Chop Suey
  • Mongo Guisado (Mung Beans)
  • Chicken Afritada

Each dish is prepared with the consistency and love that has made her a trusted name in Cambanac for decades.

Coach Merv, who is famously selective about where he eats, shares this trust:

“I only eat food from cooks I know—Norma is one of the very few people in Bohol I trust completely with food. Her cooking isn’t just delicious; it’s prepared with integrity.”

Beyond the Kitchen

When she’s not stirring pots or planning the next day’s menu, Norma enjoys tending to her vegetable garden, with a special passion for growing purple ube. She finds peace in the soil and takes pride in contributing fresh, homegrown ingredients to the kitchen.

Her other joys include watching her favorite telenovelas and leading Bible study classes in the community—a testament to her role as both a spiritual and nurturing presence in Cambanac.

More Than a Meal

When the soup kitchen celebrate it’s Grand Opening on February 2, it will be more than a service—it will be a place of connection, and Norma is at the center of that experience. Her food does more than fill stomachs; it strengthens bonds, supports our members’ well-being, and embodies the club’s mission to uplift the community from within.

We are honored to have Norma as part of our story—feeding our future, one heartfelt meal at a time.
