HNU Chorale Brings Music and Medicine to Barangay Cambanac
The hills of Barangay Cambanac came alive with song and service on February 19 as the Holy Name University Community Extension Linkages and Partnership Office (CELP) brought its outreach program to this mountain barangay, with a little help from the university’s Chorale.
Dozens of local residents lined up for free medical check-ups as part of the day’s activities, while the sounds of the award-winning Holy Name University Chorale filled the air, performing for the community in a heartwarming display of talent and generosity.

The outreach day was part of the university’s Pasigarbo 2026 celebration, a month-long series of events marking the University Days. This year’s festivities carry the theme “Where Service Becomes Legacy,” emphasizing the university’s commitment to giving back to communities that host its students and faculty.

For the residents of Cambanac, a barangay that has become a focus of HNU’s community engagement efforts, the visit meant access to basic health services that can be difficult to come by in far-flung areas. Medical personnel from the university conducted check-ups, distributed medicine, and offered health advice to residents of all ages.
But the day was not just about medicine. It was also about joy.
The HNU Chorale, known throughout the province for its vocal prowess, took time from its performance schedule to serenade the community. Children clapped along. Elders smiled and swayed. For a few hours, the basketball court became a concert venue, and the stresses of daily life faded into the background.

“With hearts ready to serve and voices lifted in joy, the HNU Chorale performed during the Outreach Day at Barangay Cambanac,” the university shared in a social media post, capturing the spirit of the event.
The outreach is part of a broader initiative by CELP-HNU to build lasting relationships with partner communities. In January, the office conducted a capacity-building seminar for community partners, with Cambanac identified as a key focus area for ongoing engagement.
The university is celebrating “Growing in Faith, Blooming in Mission” as it approaches a major milestone: HNU @ 80:25, marking 80 years of educational excellence and 25 years as a university. The Pasigarbo 2026 festivities will culminate in Livefest Hugyaw 2026 on February 21, with a portion of proceeds going toward continued community outreach programs like the one in Cambanac.

For the residents of this mountain barangay, the visit was a reminder that they are not forgotten—that the university down the mountain sees them, hears them, and cares for their well-being.
And for the students who sang and served, it was a lesson that cannot be taught in any classroom: that the best legacy is a life lived in service to others.
