And the Winner Is… Meet the New Face of the Coconuts!

The search is over. After months of anticipation and an overwhelming surge of creativity from across the globe, the Bohol Coconuts Baseball & Softball Club is proud to officially announce the winning name for our team mascot.

Out of 1,064 unique entries submitted by fans from every corner of the world, our panel of judges—Coach Merv Moore, Lerma Moore, and Diosdado Banua—had the difficult task of narrowing down the field. After much deliberation, one name rose to the top for its energy, leadership, and island spirit.

Please join us in welcoming “Captain Coco” to the roster!

The Creative Mind Behind the Name

The winning entry was submitted by Cole Wharton of Frisco, Texas. Cole’s submission captured the exact vibe we wanted for our academy: a figure of authority on the field with a fun, tropical heart.

As the grand prize winner, Cole will receive:

  • A $100 cash prize.
  • A personalized Digital Certificate of Recognition as the official namer of Captain Coco.
  • An official Bohol Coconuts cap and t-shirt.
  • A featured guest spot for a virtual chat on an upcoming episode of our YouTube reality docuseries, “Building the Coconuts.”

Fueling the Mission

While the contest was about finding a name, the impact of the event went far beyond branding. The “Name Our Mascot” fundraiser has provided vital support for our young athletes in the Philippines as we prepare for our June groundbreaking.

“This contest was about more than just a name; it was about the gear,” said Coach Merv Moore. “The funds raised through this initiative are going directly toward purchasing high-quality baseball bats and gloves for our prospects. Seeing a kid put on a real leather glove or hold a professional-grade bat for the first time changes their game. It gives them the confidence to compete at an elite level.”

Building a Global Community

The massive turnout—exceeding our initial expectations of 700 entries mentioned last month—highlights the growing international interest in what is happening on Bohol Island.

“We are truly touched by the global response,” noted Lerma Moore. “From the beginning, our goal has been to build a global fan base that feels a personal connection to these kids and this academy. Whether you are in Texas, like Cole, or right here in the Philippines, you are a part of the Coconuts family. Captain Coco now stands as a symbol of that unity.”

What’s Next for Captain Coco?

Fans won’t have to wait long to see Captain Coco in action. Our mascot will be a central figure in our marketing, community outreach, and, of course, a recurring character in the “Building the Coconuts” series as we document the construction of the Coconuts Performance Center.

Thank you to everyone who submitted a name and supported the fundraiser. Stay tuned to our social media channels and our YouTube series to see Cole Wharton’s upcoming interview and the debut of Captain Coco’s official look!
